China destroys imported bananas containing pests
Shanghai officials destroyed
an estimated 60.34 tons of
bananas imported from the
Philippines on Friday after
pests were discovered in two
batches of the cargo.
The pest, Dysmicoccus
neobrevipes, once imported
into the country, could cause
fatal damage to fruits and
vegetables in China, which
could potentially harm its crop
farming industry.
However, this is not the first
time that China destroys
bananas imported from the
Philippines. Last month,
Shenzhen officials destroyed
34.78 tons of bananas after
finding excessive pesticide
residue on them.
