A man bagged 15 years in prison with hard Labour because of a banner

Otto Warmbier has been
sentenced to 15 years hard
labour for taking the poster,
which featured the name of
the country's dimunitive
former leader Kim Jong-il.

The 21 year old University of Virginia
student from Wyoming, Ohio,
said the friend was willing to
swap it for a car worth
$10,000.
Warmbier, released a
statement on Monday saying
he took the poster because it
was requested by a member
of his church in the US.
He said he accepted the offer
of money because his family
is "suffering from very severe
financial difficulties".

Warmbier was visibily
distressed during sentencing
and begged the court: "Please
save my life, please think of
my family."
Warmbier appeared to plead to
the Swedish ambassador to
keep pursuing his case

North Korea's state news
agency has released a
partially-censored image of
the banner that Warmbier tried
to pinch on January 1.
The banner reads: "Let's arm
ourselves strongly with Kim
Jong-il patriotism!"
North Korea's leaders have
god-like status in the country
and images and references to
them are sacred among its
people.

The US doesn't have
diplomatic relations with North
Korea and is represented by
the Swedish embassy in
consular matters.
As Warmbier was led out of
court he appears to turn to the
Swedish ambassador to North
Korea to ask him to "keep
working on his case".
Meanwhile,  The White House has
condemned Warmbier's
sentence as being unduly
harsh and has demanded his
immediate release.
