A 17-year old Senior Secondary School (SSS) 2 student, Ruth Alabi has narrowly escaped death after her lover boyfriend lured her to the herbalist residence at Olodo area of Ibadan to be used for money rituals before she was rescued by vigilante men . It was gathered that Ruth Alabi an SS2 student at an undisclosed school in Abuja said she came to spend the Easter holiday with her mother in Ibadan when the incident occurred. Her boy friend, Chubuike Omigbo, 33 who used to sell building materials at the Iwo Road area of Ibadan was arrested and paraded alongside the herbalist, Oladimeji Babatunde Ajala, 37 by the state police Command on Friday. Giving details while speaking to newsmen, the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Leye Oyebade told journalists that the suspects had planned to use the girl for money making ritual before the evil planned was thwarted by the police. Pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group, Afenifere, has rejected the Grazing Commission Bill proposed by the National Assembly to address the burning issue of farmers and Fulani herdsmen clashes erupting in different parts of the country. Afenifere described the bill as “anti-people.” The bill proposes the establishment of the National Grazing Commission which will preserve and control the national grazing reserves and livestock routes and other matters related to it. The group’s leader, Reuben Fasoranti, while addressing journalists in Akure, said the bill, which empowered the commission to acquire any land anywhere in the country, would violate the subsisting Land Use Act and traditional means of land holding if enacted. He noted that the bill was being proposed allegedly to favour the business of the Fulani herdsmen at the expense of the farmers whose farms were always destroyed by the Fulani’s cows in some other parts of the country...

Shanghai officials destroyed an estimated 60.34 tons of bananas imported from the Philippines on Friday after pests were discovered in two batches of the cargo. The pest, Dysmicoccus neobrevipes, once imported into the country, could cause fatal damage to fruits and vegetables in China, which could potentially harm its crop farming industry. However, this is not the first time that China destroys bananas imported from the Philippines. Last month, Shenzhen officials destroyed 34.78 tons of bananas after finding excessive pesticide residue on them.

The Acting Director General of the National Centre for Women Development, Abdulmalik Dauda, died in an auto crash along the Abuja-Kaduna express way Yesterday morning while on his way back from an official assignment. His protocol officer, Mohammed Aliyu confirmed the death to newsmen. He was 57 years old. He's survived by two wives and five children, and has been buried according to Islamic rites in his hometown. Dauda took over from Onyeka Onwenu on February 16, 2016, following the removal of 26 heads of government agencies and parastatals.
